Public Lands at Risk — Urge Your Senators to Vote NO
Right now, the U.S. Senate is advancing a sweeping spending bill — called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — that would force the sale of nearly 3 million acres of public lands over the next five years.
These lands include National Forests and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) areas across the West — some of the very places where we hike, camp, fish, climb, and practice Leave No Trace.
This bill threatens to:
- Strip these lands from public ownership, with no guarantees of long-term protection.
- Open up lands for purchase by wealthy interests or even foreign governments.
- Ignore Tribal sovereignty by failing to provide Tribal Nations the right of first refusal, even for sacred lands.
- Prioritize extractive industries over public access and outdoor recreation.
If passed, this bill would mark one of the most damaging attacks on public lands in U.S. history.
As an organization dedicated to protecting outdoor spaces and the experiences they provide for everyone, Leave No Trace strongly opposes this legislation.
