Gold Standard Site
Roxborough State Park
Roxborough, CO
Roxborough State Park was originally designated as a Gold Standard Site in 2018, making it the first Gold Standard site in Colorado. Roxborough State Park was redesignated in 2025, demonstrating its continued dedication to Leave No Trace education.

Colin Chisholm, Park Manager, stated “Roxborough State Park is a Gold Standard park in my opinion, so it only makes sense to partner with a group like Leave No Trace and help promote this important message.”
Sally Anderson, leader of the Roxborough Leave No Trace team expressed “This redesignation shows the commitment of our volunteers and staff working this program to further the mission of Leave No Trace at Roxborough State Park. We are proud to maintain and continue this journey to ensure that future generations can experience this park’s natural beauty.”
Mike Thomas, who helped launch the Leave No Trace program at Roxborough in 2017, said “Roxborough is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and being a Gold Standard site helps the park maintain its legacy as a place where visitors can be part of the natural environment, and experience the park today, as they could 50 years ago and as they hopefully will 50 years from now.”
The principles of Leave No Trace have been adopted throughout the park in order to help address the impacts from recent increases in visitation, helping preserve the park’s unparalleled scenery and natural resources and enhancing visitors’ experiences.
Leave No Trace education has been integrated into many facets of Roxborough State Park, including signage, youth and adult programs, printed and online materials, and staff and volunteer training opportunities. Additionally, Roxborough State Park has integrated the Seven Principles and other Leave No Trace information, tailoring it for the park’s specific audiences.
