I had a pretty wild childhood moving around 30 times before high school. I was blessed to end up in the Pacific Northwest. I ended up finding love, a sense of purpose, and community through hiking and outdoor activities. I thru-hiked all 2,650 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2012 and have been hiking and backpacking as much as I can ever since. For me, backpacking is the best way to really slow down and connect with nature and myself. That said, I go to the local park with my kids all the time. I love using these experiences to create art and inspire others to connect with nature.

What does Leave no Trace mean To You?

To me, it means everything. It’s such a blessing that we have so many natural, wild places to explore and grow with. Protecting Mother Earth is essential to a brighter future for all of us. I’m going to do everything I can to ensure that my grandchildren can walk next to ancient tall trees, drink clean water, and breathe fresh air.

Who is one conservationist that has inspired you?

My spirit dad, Gene. I didn’t grow up with a dad, really, and had no idea what conservation meant. After high school, I met Gene, and we started fishing, hiking, and doing all kinds of outdoor activities together. He would always bring garbage bags to the more popular areas, and we would pack out as much garbage as possible. He really shined the light on the importance of being a steward of the land.
