Services

For the last 25 years, Leave No Trace has been the most widely recognized stewardship education program on federal, state, and county lands in the United States. Tourism partnerships use the Center’s messaging to ensure that all travelers—residents and visitors alike—are well equipped to take action to protect land and water resources. The Center’s staff helps partners produce location-specific campaigns that incorporate core Leave No Trace assets.

Leave No Trace staff will review your destination’s current strategic plan and make recommendations for additional stewardship-specific items. Ultimately working to create the additional resource for the organization’s strategic plan that further strengthens operations and consumer content strategies linked to the new Leave No Trace initiatives.

Partnerships include the development of an alliance program that works to bring various tourism and recreation stakeholders together to promote a unified message of responsible tourism.

In person or virtual education workshop for your creative staff and agency partners focused on effectively communicating Leave No Trace messaging. Participants will gain the tools to successfully conceptualize and implement Leave No Trace into future marketing campaigns and activations.

Leave No Trace staff can create messaging and marketing assets on a variety of topics related to your destinations outdoor impacts and visitors.

A consistent baseline of Leave No Trace education is a critical piece of community buy in to sustain parks and protected areas. Leave No Trace offers workshops and training certifications from 1 hour to 5 days in length.

Leave No Trace will assess and make recommendations about responsible visitation messaging opportunities across your destination’s website and digital communications channels. A final report will contain the full analysis and recommendations. 

Leave No Trace will develop industry-tailored Leave No Trace online education workshops branded for your destination’s industry and consumer sectors, including:

  • An online education course for visitors (consumer)
  • An online training course for area outfitters and guides (industry)
  • An online training course for visitor center staff (industry)
  • An online training course for hospitality and retail partners (industry)

Visitors Want Destination Stewardship Opportunities

Leave No Trace (LNT) visitor education to meet evolving traveler expectations and create sustainable, scalable tourism strategies. With 83% of global travelers considering sustainable travel important and a 191% increase in searches for “sustainable travel” since 2020, now is the time to integrate environmental stewardship into the visitor experience.

Outdoor recreation is a cornerstone of modern tourism, with 57.3% of Americans aged six and older participating in outdoor activities in 2023—a 4.1% increase from the previous year. This surge in outdoor enthusiasm offers a tremendous opportunity for destinations to align with travelers’ preferences while addressing challenges like resource preservation, community engagement, and managing “over-tourism.”

“Overtourism” is threatening natural resources and community support of tourism. Leave No Trace visitor education empowers visitors to protect the places in danger of being “loved to death”. Our community-focused approach views local stakeholders and visitors as partners in protecting the environment.
