Each year we hand-select nominated outdoor spaces that need our collective care and attention. By designating them as Spotlights, we’re rallying the local community to step up, join forces with Leave No Trace, and make a meaningful impact that can revitalize and protect these special places where we recreate, enjoy one another’s company, and elevate our health physically, mentally and emotionally.

John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir has been selected as a 2025 Leave No Trace Spotlight. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team will be at John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir May 15-17, collaborating with hosts and partners on a variety of programs including stewardship projects, workshops, and community outreach.

Opportunities to Get Involved:

FRIDAY, MAY 16: 

Pop-up Education: How to Protect Nature with Leave No Trace, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Joseph S.J. Tanner Environmental Education Center, Boydton, VA

Join Leave No Trace, Southern Piedmont Master Naturalist Chapter, and John H. Kerr Reservoir Park Rangers for engaging family-friendly outreach where participants can rotate through three different activity and educational stations all focused on Leave No Trace. Advance registration is encouraged but not required. Learn more about this unique opportunity!

Leave No Trace Trivia Night, 5:30 -6:30 pm, Buggs Island Brewing, Clarksville, VA.

Join Leave No Trace and Southern Piedmont Master Naturalist Chapter for an evening of Leave No Trace themed trivia while learning tips and techniques for protecting John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir and all your favorite outdoor spaces. Don’t miss this chance to participate in fun stewardship trivia and win cool prizes!

SATURDAY, MAY 17: 

Stewardship Volunteer Project – Munford Trail Workday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Eagle Point Boat Ramp, Boydton, VA

Join us at the Eagle Point Boat Ramp at John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir (5371 Taylor Ferry Road, Boydton, VA 23917) from 9 am to 12 pm for a fun and rewarding trail workday focused on trail improvements and Leave No Trace. Volunteers will split into groups to work on a variety of projects. Advance registration is not required – same day walk ups are welcome.
