Join Leave No Trace at Hickory Run State Park, PA – June 12-14, 2025

Each year we hand-select nominated outdoor spaces that need our collective care and attention. By designating them as Spotlights, we’re rallying the local community to step up, join forces with Leave No Trace, and make a meaningful impact that can revitalize and protect these special places where we recreate, enjoy one another’s company, and elevate our health physically, mentally and emotionally.

Hickory Run State Park has been selected as a 2025 Leave No Trace Spotlight. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team will be at Hickory Run State Park June 12-14, collaborating with hosts and partners on a variety of programs including stewardship projects, workshops, and community outreach.

Opportunities to Get Involved:

FRIDAY, JUNE 13:

Guided Hike Hawk Falls Trail, 9:00-11:00 am, Hickory Run State Park

TRAIL: Hawk Falls Trail
LENGTH: 1 mile
TERRAIN: more difficult; hill and uneven terrain
MEET: Hawk Falls Trailhead on PA-534 at Hickory Run State Park

Join Hickory Run State Park and Leave No Trace staff for a guided, family-friendly 1-mile interpretive hike to learn more about our park and how Leave No Trace principles can help protect the beauty and natural resources of this special place. All skill levels are welcome! Please bring water and wear comfortable shoes for hiking. Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome. Free. No registration required. Leave No Trace Pop-Up Education & Outreach, 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Hickory Run State Park Boulder Field

Stop by any time between 1-4 PM to meet the Leave No Trace team and park staff for some quick games and information about protecting the beauty, wildlife, and special resources of Hickory Run State Park and all your favorite outdoor spaces. Discover some of our wildlife and resources first-hand with a touch table and chats about Boulder Field. Help us preserve these spaces by Leaving No Trace!

SATURDAY, JUNE 14:

Volunteer Trail Crew – Boulder Field, 9:30 am – 11:30 am, Boulder Field, Hickory Run State Park

Give back to Hickory Run State Park by volunteering for a fun and rewarding volunteer project including a litter cleanup and social trail removal. Volunteers will be introduced to Leave No Trace and learn more about stewardship while assisting with park improvements.

Important information:

– Bring water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and dress for the weather.
– Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
– Tools & supplies provided, but please bring your favorite work gloves if you have them.
– Work may entail bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting and walking across uneven terrain.
– Advance sign-up is requested.

Family Trivia Night, 7:00 pm, Hickory Run Amphitheater

Love the outdoors and Hickory Run State Park? Then don’t miss our Leave No Trace Family Trivia Night—an evening of fun and discovery for the whole family! Gather around the campfire to learn tips for protecting the park and all your favorite outdoor spaces while testing your nature know-how. Discover easy ways to help protect wildlife, keep our trails and waterways clean, and show kindness to both nature and fellow adventurers as you compete for prizes. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or just starting out, there’s something for everyone: All ages and visitors are welcome. Bonus for kids: Bring your completed Bigfoot & Friends Activity Booklet (pickup at the Visitor Center) and score some cool prizes! In the event of inclement weather, this program will be held in the Visitor Center classroom.
